Stop Domestic Terror

**********

[080213:042610] R.N., Marshall, TX
The risk of right-wing domestic terror has skyrocketed due to the loss of moral compass of the GOP and right-wing in American politics. While the American public is diverted by Islamophobic rants and plots (none of which have killed an American citizen since 9/11), the American right-wing terrorists continue to kill and injure Americans, and are arrested on explosives and weapons charges on a weekly basis (police officers are targeted in particular) none of this ongoing violence is portrayed as the right-wing terrorism it is.

It is time for the GOP to accept responsibility for this trend to eliminationism in American politics and take immediate steps to reverse it. The DoJ must continue its aggressive penetration, arrests, and prosecution of the right-wing terrorists who are our next-door neighbors.

Dear Senator or Representative,

I feel I must voice my concern about the increased trend in threats espousing violent acts against the US government. I know that there are many frustrated, frightened people, who are concerned about their future -- their jobs, their security. I think that this frustration and feeling of hopelessness is often manifested in the aforementioned threats of violence. Biased media corporations are also exaserbating extremist views.

I think you would agree that unbridled freedom is not permissible in a civilized society. With no restrictions on hateful acts or serious intentions of carrying out these acts, what we are ultimately left with is anarchy, and paradoxically no security, no hope for evolution toward a kinder, gentler future.

I am requesting that you seriously consider this request laid out above in the body of this letter. We must take steps to understand the causes of violence in the US and how to counter it. We must also institute strong hate crime laws. We must also fully understand the role that monopolization of the media plays by not offering diverse content, but instead only biased information gathering and reporting. Anti-trust laws must appropriately be enforced.

Justice, equality and fairness must prevail in this world because all decent people support these values. Injustice, hatred, inequality and violence are immoral.

There are those in the media, particularly on the Right, whose rhetoric is fanning the flames of extremism. There must be more vigilance on the part of authorities, and within the media itself to ensure that our rights to freedom of speech do not become the green light for acts of violence and domestic terrorism. Culpability lies also with the Republican Party leadership which, through its silence, has given its tacit approval of the blatant demonstrations of racism, radicalism and pure, unadulterated hatred, spewing from the likes of the Tea Party and other fringe groups. This has to stop. Our nation is being besieged by this minority of anti-government fundamentalists, yet they achieve constant recognition thanks to a media hungry for the next kill. It is obscene, unconscionable and unacceptable. We, the Majority, need to have our voices heard, and our government needs to do more to root out these extremist factions and put an end them. Once and for all. No more being 'nice' - we want our country back. We, The People want it back, and to once more have a democracy which is by By The People, and most of all For The People. We are the majority.

This affects us all, because it is the beginning of anarchy. How can we protest this in other countries but allow it in the USA.

As a historian I believe that recent right-wing speech in the US has begun to pose hate-crime danger to minority groups, women and politicians. Such broadcasting that is clearly not in the public interest should not be allowed by the FCC. The airwaves belong to the people, not to the wealthy demagogues who dominate FOX news.

In Frank Rich's recent Editorial entitled "The Rage Is Not About Health Care" he describes what he sees as the right's response to loosing the demographic war with people of color, the poor and new progressives. In fact much of the recent rage and violence on the right could be described as frustrated racism as the old white people die out and are replaced by brown and black people.

Get over it white folks and be part of the solution and not a bunch of cry babies and closet racists.

Vigorous discussion is a hallmark and necessary part of democracy, but such discussions are unlikely to freely happen when the threat of violence hangs in the air. Please prosecute those groups, including churches and media, that are advocating violence against elected officials or against anyone one else participating in the democratic process of debate.

President Obama's tolerance of the ongoing sedition by Fox News and their burgeoning numbers of paranoid, well-armed viewers is great, in theory. But it is increasingly obvious that the result is not in the public interest, including the interest of those poor folks being driven into paranoid frenzies by the Fox News propaganda machine. (It's appears as though Fox's inflammatory meme about detention camps could become a self-fulfilling prophesy. What alternative would there be to the large-scale violence they are fomenting?)
It is time for the FCC to reign in Fox News propaganda machine for the good of the country.

FOX, Glen Beck, Rush, O'Riley, Savage, Hannity and Ingrum are encouraging acts of violence. There are laws against their behavior. They need to be tried for sedition and/or taken off the air. Lets get to it!

I hope the DOJ will prosecute those who are actively encouraging this violence with their incitefull rhetoric, no matter what their position is, politician or broadcaster.

The rhetoric is getting way out of hand. The "less balanced" are being riled up and nothing good can come from it. The world is watching. We be a voice for solving world problems if we cannot even have a civil discussion here at home. What is coming from the tea baggers, right wing politicos and talking heads is boardering on treason. They are inciting insurrection.

Recently, there has been an explosion in threats and acts of domestic terrorism. The majority of these can be traced to groups and individuals who do not accept the results of our recent election or the laws enacted or proposed by those who have been elected. They seek to undermine the democratic process through threats, intimidation, and even outright murder. They can't accept the legitimacy of the President, or a woman's legal right to make choices about her own medical care, or an immigrant's right to be treated humanely under the law, so they carry out acts that are antithetical to American democracy, American values, and both civil and human rights.

The fringe elements that makes up those who commit these acts of terror, are frequently exploited by a continuous wave of right wing media advocating violence, either directly or indirectly, by commentators amplifying the talking points of extremist religious leaders and extremist political leaders. The fringe is incited on our public airwaves, and urged to take matters into their own hands, with the underlying belief that the Bible and/or U.S. Constitution justify using "whatever means" are necessary to oppose what they believe to be immoral laws.

We ask you to take a stand against this dangerous trend towards the incitement of lawlessness and violence. We strongly believe in the First Amendment right of free expression and discourse, even when that expression is abhorrent or not in line with our own beliefs. However, the First Amendment does not protect debate where one side includes the threat or act of violence.

It is incumbent upon our leaders to demonstrate the power of civil discourse within a true democracy. Our democracy is doomed to fail when our leaders support slanderous attacks and promote acts of violence against those with whom you disagree. I implore you to do all within your power to bring all members of Congress back to civil behavior and to prosecute anyone who promotes acts of violence. This domestic terrorism can and will do much more harm than any foreign terrorist could hope to inflict!

Help stop this despicable, dangerous rhetoric now. These people should be prosecuted for insighting violence.

WHY IS IT THAT AT POLITICAL FUNCTIONS THAT THE PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATORS ARE CAGED AND WORSE AND THE VIOLENT ONES ROAM AROUND FREE ?

I think we should not forget Timothy McVeigh and the Oklahoma City bombing. He was motivated by all the anti-government rhetoric by irresponsible fear mongering.

I am totally repulsed by the horrific language and incessant filling up of the airwaves with extremist and factually wrong information by conservative right-leaning 'broadcasters'. There is a frightening and dangerous undercurrent fomenting among their listeners.

If Jane Harmon's draconian domestic terrorism bill is good enough to put defenders of animal rights behind bars, who knows, just maybe it could also be used to protect against domestic terrorists who threaten sitting members of congress or their families -- or maybe the wonderful Patriot Act could be used for something other than snooping on everyone's phone calls, emails and web activity and could be used instead against those who actually threaten political violence AND against those politicians and media figures and media organizations (no matter how rich or well-connected) who use their media megaphones to incite political violence on the part of their vast audiences.

It's very important that we all learn to live in peace. I have relatives whose political leanings are polar to mine, yet we sit down and talk. We love and respect each other, look for the good in one another and realize that everyone has a piece of the truth. We GREATLY need to do this as a nation NOW. For our children's sake, especially!

The level of what passes for political discourse in these times is abhorrent. The insulting racial comments, the calls for snipers and killing those with whom the extremists disagree are truly abominable. I expect you, as elected representatives of the people, to take a firm and public stand condemning these outrages. Even more despicable, it appears that the majority of these "spokespersons" are aligned with the Republican Party, and the Party seems to condone their behavior.
As a citizen who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, I am appalled that this most un-American behavior is not only happening, but has not been condemned by our Congress.
I truly expect to see that you have acted in a decent and responsible manner.

I've lived too long when I have to write my Congressmen and ask them to address the issue of domestic terrorism, which poses more of a threat to this country than any foreign terrorism, particularly given the climate of hate being fostered by the GOP and certain television and radio personalities. Please do something. You should certainly know that April in particular is a dangerous month because of the conjunction of the Timothy McVeigh bombing, WACO, and unbelievably enough Adolph Hitler's birthday. DO something please before someone or multiple people get killed!
