We Need A Crash Program For Alternative Energy Production NOW

In view of the fact that our oceans are being destroyed by the likes of oil spills, ( Exxon, BP) Fukushima and other catastrophes, I think it's about time we seriously considered using clean technology that is currently available before our largest ecosystem is completely destroyed which will then be the demise of this planet. It's a no brainer-let's get on it now!

High priority R and D for alternative, sustainable energy production is long overdue. It should have proceeded at full speed when the Department of Energy was formed.

Make wind power and solar power economically attractive as an incentive.

There is nothing... "respectful and in acceptable taste" that can be said at this time. This is what Obama gets for allowing the Bush/Cheney cabal walk away from accountability from their assaults on MotherEarth for the last 8 years. What happened to the presidential candidate's words of transparency in government now that he's elected??

Permission should never been given to start with by the administration! An oilwell at this depth has never been done before! Not one correct decision has yet been made in regards to handling the clean-up efforts, in fact every dicision made worsens the situation, like the use of Corexet 9500-a highly toxic chemical cocktail that makes the oil sink to the bottom of the ocean out of sight--un-recoverable! Why not allow Super Tankers to vaccum up the oil, as has been done in past spills and save the marine enviorment? Why hasn't our government thrown out the incompatents and replaced them with oil clean-up specialists? In my opinion, if the intellegence used to make the decisions in this whole project is what we have to look forward to--then we need to look into alternative energy with all our avaliable resources at hand! We only have one earth.

We must move forward with alternative energy research with the same drive and commitment that got us to the moon decades ago. We can create thousands of new jobs with clean energy research, production, and export for a growing world market. By being allowed to dictate our energy policies with their campaign contributions, through the trickle down effect oil companies are undercutting our educational system and endangering our national security. BP should never have been permitted to drill so deeply, which means this catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico was entirely preventable. Their greed far outstripped their technology and now we all pay the price. America demands better of its leaders.

As it is evident that there were not proper safety procedures and equipment at the ready to minimize this catastrophe, there must be a complete over-haul of how this industry is regulated. Talking points of how this will hurt our economics is a fallacy. This catastrophe has decimated other industries and will have environmental impact never seen before. The lobbying of special interest groups helps the few but hurts the many. Government should not be in the business of business. Tax the industry in proportion to the profits they make and force them to have insurance to pay for the messes they make.

stop worrying about your pockets and the bank accounts of big oil industries and cooperate industries, and do what is RIGHT. Do what is BEST for ALL! Stop abusing our earth and the people of earth whom you claim to represent. Give our world back to us, legalize hemp and stop trying to 'control' everything and everyone.
I pray you ALL recive DIVINE intervention from GOD. WAKE UP!

Imagine if there had been an earthquake under the Gulf and we had multiple oil wells spewing filth. Or if this disaster was a neuclear power plant spewing radiation. The time to develop and the application of clean alternative energy is long overdue. In January of this year the Supreme Court in the case of Citizens United (a right wing big money Lobby group) V. The Federal Election Commission ruled that it was perfectly fine to let Corporations contribute unlimited funds to election campaigns. This oil spill is a perfect example of why this is Wrong. Republicans are already trying to stop the increase in the liability cap for the restitution owed for the oil spill. The cap is now at $750,000 and it should be unlimited, whoever put this cap on was under the influence of the Oil Lobby. When I hear the right wing cry out about entitlements I wonder what makes them so entitled to make big money off the hard work of the working men and women of this country. How can any one man be worth mllions of dollars per year, how much is enough. How can they live with themselves knowing that ther were safety violations, corners were cut and precations not taken like the special safty valve BP decided that they did not want to spend the money on? Lets not forget the oil rig workers that lost their lives due to corner cutting and the coal miners in West Virginia that died because of the same type of attitude by the "entitled" corporate elite.
The time for rapid change is now, change the way money influences government, start learning from these mistakes.
Impeach the John Roberts Court and don't let John Boehner and his elitest party of no ruin good reform.

It is obvious to me that we can't sit back and wait to see what happens anymore. The time to create and implement plans not only for clean up, but the future of how we do things in this country is right now! If we don't make serious changes now we are not going to be able to catch up 3 or 6 months later when they finally plug up that well. This may very well be the beginning of the end of the world and we should treat the environmental situation as if it were just that. We have to stop thinking exclusively about corporate profits and start thinking about the good of the people, the survival of the people, of this country and the planet.

I'm fed up with disasters which could have been avoided. I'm 55 years old. We've been discussing alternative fuels for at least 30 years -- do it now. Get away from fossil fuels. We need to invest in nanotech solar and synthetic biofuels immediately.

We need this mess cleaned up now and the regulations cleaned up about off shore drilling so that this never happens again. What kind of profit is worth this wholesale destruction of our sustainable natural resources on the coast?

Yes, mandate renewable energy use NOW.
Isn't it OBVIOUS yet?

This is can be our catalyst to wean ourselves slowly away from oil.

Since Obama's "moratorium" on new drilling, 15 more have got the green light...WITH NO CHANGE IN "OPTIONAL" EMERGENCY VALVE REQUIREMENTS...

I have been totally sickened and dismayed by the oil disaster!
And equally disgusted by the lack of action by our
government. It is time to accept the reality- our reliance on fossil fuel is making us sick and killing all kinds of wildlife, plants and humans. We need to forget about lining the pockets of those in the oil industry (and coal as well as nuclear), and start using the resources which are safe, less expensive and DOABLE! Wind, sun and geothermal, and perhaps tidal power can keep us warm and provide transportation. We need to move on and up- away from the
death-producing obsolete methods currently and get with the program- a clean, safe and sane one!

We are destroying our home by our negligence, greed, and self-centeredness. Try to drive as little as possible and use as little electricity as possible. Write or call Congress and tell them to implement renewable energy mandates NOW. All our kids and grandkids will love us for it.

It's time we take politics out of this equation. Americans deserve better.
For once let's do whats right instead of having to be right. We can use all sources available and make America better and stronger by utilizing ALL our resources. The time to take action is now!

Solar and wind power for everyone at an affordable price with electric vehicles for transportation now.

It's hard to pretend an oil slick the size of New Jersey isn't there. And it could easily blow out to 50,000 barrels a day (2,000,000 gallons) in a heartbeat, according to a "not for public" NOAA emergency report.

This is not just a leak, it's a monster underwater oil geyser, under upwards of 100,000 pounds per square inch of pressure, enough force to lift 50 tons with your thumb. And unless it is somehow stopped, it may spell the end of all marine life on the planet. We are not talking about just one Exxon Valdez size tanker spill, we are talking about one of largest oil fields ever discovered completely venting its entire contents into the ocean, thousands and thousands of tankers. It's THAT cataclysmic.

But assuming we miraculously dodge the literal end of the world this one time, we need to finally do what should have been done 20 years ago, and throw everything we've got into a crash program for alternative renewable energy, and stop burning fossil fuels before they kill us all.
