Do your job. Protect the country, which includes the environment. We're counting up the dollars you've received from Big Oil. We're paying attention now. Do your job or expect to be voted out of offic3.

All companies should be held responsible for whatever they do that harms the public or the environment. That should just be a part of doing business. And responsible means 100% for cleanup and restitution to those they have harmed.

Truth be told I am frickin' pissed.I am pissed that so much of the reform in the form of our new health care bill, financial reform bill, climate change/energy bill....efforts to stop MTR,Tar Sands extraction,Off Shore Drillinf, etc.have been reworked and weakened by industry lobbyists and the big, fat, arrogant ,greedy corporations....at the same time lessening change intended to help our people and our planet.Over the years I have seen the voices of "we the people"become more and more diminished. Will we ultimately be silenced as these corporate lobbyists stick more and more politicans in their pockets...the corporate loving SCOTUS has sped that up.If we elect legislators who receive big money from corporations such as Big Oil, Wall St. banks/financial houses,Dirty Coal, the big insurance cos and Big Pharma, yep,"we the people" may be silenced because those corporate loving legislators are beholden to them and will do their bidding no matter how loud "we" are in voicing what we want.Corporations need to be held fully accountable and responsible for their actions /inactions such as BP,etc.Lastly, has anyone else stopped to think about the no.of cataclysmic events in the last 3-5 yrs.The no. has accelerated...the C'mas Tsunami,Katrina,Rita, mega wildfires/floods,the coal ash spill(millions of gals)of toxic, polluting coal ash over hundreds of acres in Tenn.,3 e-quakes in Haiti,Chile and China w/in few mos. and the Gulf oil gusher. Our politicans need to make big, bold progressive changes in climate and energy reform.Hmmm, what a sad day,if twiddling ones thumbs remains the no.1 activity in Congress. It may just take the Fla. Keys being submerged in water(as our ice caps continue to melt) for change to come.

I agree with this writing. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Our supposed representatives MUST represent us and NOT big business or their buddies or themselves for that matter. Corporations are NOT PEOPLE!

The reality that oil companies have at least in part written their own regulations (the fox guarding the hen house---even a kindergartener would know that is not a good idea) is only a small part of the anger and frustration I feel with the state of things in America at present. Corporations have supplanted the will of the people through the recent Supreme Court ruling that leads to them having ultimate control over our elected officials, and regulatory bodies and agencies. It makes me very sad for my grandchild and the legacy that is being left for his generation, and for the earth itself.

What has happened to our beautiful Gulf of Mexico is a horrible environmental and economic disaster. Millions of species of marine life and human have ended and many American lives have been affected emotionally and financially. BP, Halliburton, and Transocean must take full responsibility of this situation. What they have caused is horrible. If These companies aren't checked then situations like this will continue to occur. I don't want to live in a world where oil corporations can destroy our home and get away with it. I don't want my children to grow up in that kind of world. Now and for decades to come the damage done to the Gulf is non reverse able. I will not forgot what they have done.

There is no absolutely conceivable justification -- social, political, or economic -- for allowing these egregious corporations to escape paying fully and then some, for this cataclysm in the Gulf. Let's suspend disbelief for a moment and suppose they actually ARE "people" -- would a person be allowed off the hook for repeatedly causing such disasters? Only Dick Cheney. Fine these revolting corporations into bankruptcy, put Cheney behind bars, and get us permanently OFF OF OIL. Use Cheney's money to save as many sea creatures as possible.

If corporations are to be treated like normal persons, then they should also be held responsible for their actions. Please make it so. The American people should not have to pay for their mistakes.

It is unbelievable to me that Oil Companies would be limited financially for the damage they might cause especially with the record profits, we are talking BILLIONS a year... We need to change the law and make sure they have a viable plan to deal with any and all spills or accidents, and the financial reserves to fund the cleanup.

oil company executives AND their lobbyists, should be held criminally responsible to the negative effect our forced, continued addiction to oil has caused.

When ordinary citizens are involved in events that have negative consequences, whether they be the result of bad decisions or wrong decisions they are held responsible financially and legally. It is only right that corporations be held to the same standard.

The responsibility for this oil gusher in our beautiful Gulf of Mexico lies with those who allowed procedures to be ignored and their own pocketbooks to be lined by Big Oil. This means former Vice President Dick Cheney and Halliburton as well as BP and Transocean. Dick Cheney must be held accountable for his actions regarding the regulations of BP and in particular the Horizon.

Congress must MONITOR AND REGULATE the big oil companies. They are ruthless and have no regard for the people and the environment. They should be HEAVILY FINED and must makE RESTITUTION to the people who have lost their jobs and means to support their families, not to mention other businesses in Louisiana. Other parts of the country are affected also.
HOW MUCH DO WE HAVE TO TAKE TO GET YOU GUYS OFF YOUR DUFFS !! STOP THIS DESTRUCTION !!.
IF YOU DO NOTHING THE PEOPLE WILL WELL REMEMBER WHEN THE NEXT ELECTION COMES UP.

BP, HALLIBURTON, AND Transocean have long-time scurrilous reputations, poor safety records, and significant prior liability!!... It is NO time to go SOFT on them now. This disaster is extraordinarily MASSIVE--it is worse than Chernobyl, BY FAR!! However, with their multi-TRILLION$ in record profits for the past decade (recessionary for the rest of us), they each must pay out -in advance- IN FULL. NO exceptions, NO delays.

Hold all those "corporates" accountable for their actions.

With the destruction of life in the Gulf because of the quest for oil it is obvious that the fossil fuel industry needs to have far more regulations just as the banking industry needs a lot more regulations. It seems that greed takes the place of responsible and considerate actions by those at the top, or should I say "the BIG people".
