The Afghanistan War Funding Vote Was A Total Sham

The Afghanistan War Funding Vote Was A Total Sham
When Michael Steele accidentally spoke the truth (while hypocritically trying to condemn President Obama for any possible reason) that "the one thing you don't do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan", he was condemned by BOTH the Republican and Democratic leadership. Those in his own party demanded his resignation, while the DNC put out an especially snide press release accusing Steele of "rooting for failure" and other like chicken hawk talk.

The fact is the senseless and counterproductive occupation of Afghanistan has never been about supporting the troops. Instead it is about supporting war profiteers and overpaid mercenaries, because that's where most of the money we are borrowing from China to pay for it is going. And a substantial part of the rest is going as bribes and payoffs directly into the pockets of the very terrorists we are supposed to be fighting, literally a vote in support of terrorism.

The snaky rule vote (to pass if ANY one amendment passed) was completely manipulated to itself barely pass, to let the Democrats who voted against it pretend they would have voted against the war funding regardless (when they knew it was going to pass anyway), and to let the rest pretend they were not actually voting for it (when in fact the amendment votes had already been fixed). Not to be outmatched in the cynical cowardice department the Republicans voted lock step against funding the war they themselves had touted all along, because it did anything else but burn war money.

So what we are left with is a two "war party" system in America, neither with the courage, the wisdom, or the leadership to end this hideously doomed, bloody mess. And we need to tell them exactly that.

It is not acceptable to punish someone for giving his honest opinion in the US because we have the right to free speech. To demand the resignation of Michael Steele for giving an opinion contrary to what Congress wanted to hear is unethical. How can Congress make an informed decison when they punish people for giving an opinion contrary to what is wanted? That is the same attitude that the Bush Administration had and look where it got us--a second and third Vietnam, a collapsed economy and too much corporate power at the expense of American citizens. For shame.

End the war in Afghanistan NOW! Stop the money, bring the troops home! If you don't, you are just proving that democracy is dead in America.

It is shamefully criminal to continue to assault sovereign nations for the benefit of the greedy military and defense industries and to the destruction of our national treasury. SHAME ON YOU! These endless illegal immoral wars must end.

The Afghanistan War completed my disilliusionment--well, and PE coach Duncan as head of American intellectual development--aand proved our current president is Bush III.
Both Biden and Eikenberry advised against making this our war. We need every cent we're sp[ending in the sands of Asia. I blame Reagan for his stupid collapsing of the Sovietas, who for decades complained about their border republics--Radical Islam, though it wasn't called that then. Reagan said, "You tyrants! Give them the votre." Well, they voted on 9/11. The Soviets took care of Radical Islam in a brutal way, but now they're too weak. Eisenhower said to avoid a land war in Asia--but who was he anyways, only the last president with serious military experience.

America can ill-afford these immoral wars in Iraq and Afganistan, both ethically and financially. If we continue them, we will fall as a nation as Ancient Rome fell. We must withdraw all American troops from the Middle East as soon as possible!

Voting to fund illegal and immoral wars is a crime in every sense of the word, and, those members of Congress who voted to continue the murder of United States soldiers and innocent Afghan civilians must be held accountable not only by the American people but the entire world community.

P.S.

Politics was not meant to be a career!

We have citizens who are BROKE, without jobs and losing their homes. I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER CENT OF AMERICAN MONEY SPENT ON WAR, WAR, WAR. No matter what the cause. WE DO NOT have to babysit all other nations when WE ARE BROKE and our own people are fighting to stay above water. QUIT voting for WAR.

Putting a ballooning war budget before the needs of We, the People ... who expected from those they elected the followiwng:
A one-payer system for health care for all,
An excellent public educational system which includes college,
No threats of budget cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid grants to students, scientists, medical research.
And the urgent need to address climate change (getting off the fossil fuel standard).
All Americans deserve good jobs with decent salaries. Let's put Americans to work addressing THESE issues here at home, and let's CUT the war budget by 50% NOW along with 95% cuts, retroactive to 2001 on bonuses, golden parachutes, salaries for ANYONE in bailed-out at corporations/banks/financial institutions and corporations..

The continuing Congressional treason in funding the criminal war in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and everywhere else the murderous U. S. military sets foot demonstrates the need for a revolution by whatever means necessary. Every member of Congress and every Obama adminstration shill who continues to bankrupt this country while committing war crimes deserves, at the very least, to live their psychopathic lives out in the darkest of prisons. Personally, we'd all save ourselves a lot more trouble by putting our bullets to good use on the traitors in Congress instead of wasting them on opium growers and peasants in Asia and Africa. Until Americans wake up and take back this country, we'll continue to be enslaved by the lying, stealing misanthropes who never act in our best interests.

All of the United States hang on the iron cross of usless and destructive military spending. We want to be a country again, and not just a fund raiser for the military.

Dear Senators, Representative
I respectfully beg all of you to stop this immoral, illegal, inhumane war.
Could you try to place yourselves and your families in the position of the innocent bystanders that become 'collateral damage' in this atrocity? Do you care to even try? What if, while celebrating your son/daughters wedding/birthday/bar mitzvah/ an unmanned 'drone' came out from behind Mt Tam or Mt Diablo, heading for the Concord Naval Weapons Station -uh, sorry, got my signals crossed, intelligence was outdated, soo sorry, your just collateral damage to the controller who will never have to see, or be confronted by any member of your family who might be left alive. Please act now to call it OFF!

sincerely, Robert D. Grady

Stop this endless war funding. We are not going to win military victories in the Middle East. We are wasting time, money and the lives of thousands of people. War is a racket. You know it and so do I.

The continued funding of our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan can not be justified as "support of the troops." How does sending more troops to kill and be killed in the name of unwinnable wars support the troops. This mantra is the cynical and cowardly response from our congress members when asked why we continue what we are doing. As we did in Vietnam, we will leave both Iraq and Afghanistan with our tails between our legs, our military in ruins, our country impoverished. But our Congress still maintains the charade. Why do they do this? They want to maintain their seats, they want to keep the checks flowing from the war profiteers. There can be no other explanation. Unfortunately, there is no draft today which, if it existed, would get more people's attention. Now, we just go about the day believing the fantasy that Congress and those who have swallowed their story while living like the wars don't exis and the costs aren't ruining us. Maybe it's time we, as a nation, wake up from this dream and demand that the Congress stop these wars.

Bring ALL the troops home now. The Dems were elected on that platform. Mr President, please do what you promised. Americans need the money that is being wasted by the military. Why are you continuing Bush's policy of endless war?

How long must we endure the wrong that has been done to our troops by having them unjustifiably sent to Afghanistan? Please bring them home.

What ARE we doing in Afghanistan? The Afghans don't want us,
the Afghan people were not involved in 9/11, Afghanistan is
a notorious graveyard for imperial ambitions...our presence seems to be psychologically insane, and will undermine the strength of
our economy, our resources, and any future for young Americans.
Stop funding this travesty of a national purpose.

I believe it is time to stop fighting and work for peace. If we don't, we will always make enemies and truly have endless war which is obscene and will cause the end of life on earth.
