In this great Republic it is totally unacceptable for anyone to play judge, jury and executioner without the proper constitutional checks of congress and the courts. Please stop the extra-judicial drone killings.

Mr. President, as a Constitutional scholar, you know these drone attacks are illegal and unconstitutional. Shame On You! You have spit in the face of every American who still believes in the promise of this country.

Stop The Unconstitutional Drone Killings
This week, an unclassified memorandum prepared by the Justice Department for members of Congress on the drone killings accidentally became public. The actual Office of Legal Counsel opinion which purports to authorize this program is still a wrongfully classified secret, and a federal judge just refused a FOIA request from the New York Times for release of the document.

This is exactly how the infamous torture memo came into existence during the Bush administration, a secret OLC opinion, the legal reasoning of which was so flimsy that it could not survive the light of day. So not only are we not supposed to question the murder of people in multiple countries, we are not even allowed to question the legal basis for it. It is sheer lunacy that LEGAL arguments need to be classified.

This is not a partisan issue. This is totally unacceptable regardless of who is the chief executive. And in particular, it is totally unacceptable for king "whatever his name happens to be this election cycle" to play judge, jury and executioner without the proper constitutional checks of congress and the courts.

The judge who refused to order the release of the legal opinion complained that the denial language of the FOIA statute was so vague and ambiguous it could authorize virtually anything. Apparently that is precisely the problem with the secret legal opinion itself, and it is intolerable. The legal opinion must be released to the PUBLIC, not it some back room for selected members of Congress only, and if it cannot be defended the drone killings must stop.

Everyone who is charged deserves a trial! Even the Shrub when he is charged as an International War Criminal deserves a trial!

Is this how we fight our enemies, by becoming that which we profess to fight against, by becoming terrorists? This is how we lost favor with the rest of the world during the wars we started in Afghanistan and Iraq. We can't fight fire with fire.

Now I find myself petitioning a criminal government to stop committing heinous crimes. Not how I originally envisioned democracy in action.

I am an ex-pat living in Canada but still voting in Colorado. Seeing the actions of my beloved country from the outside is very humiliating. The drone bombing of innocents in Pakistan and Afghanistan is totally unjustified. Why in Hell does the US think it can arbitrarily bomb other countries?

Do we really want to be a country where "the rule of law" refers to "the law of the jungle"? You are giving more and more people reasons to hate us. All members of the government who support these policies of murder should be impeached for violation of their oath of office and prosecuted as the criminals they are. And President Obama, you, more than anyone else, because you are our Commander and Chief and a Constitutional scholar, are to be held responsible. Shame on you.

I believe drone killings are unconstitutional and immoral. People subjected to them will grow to hate the USA. Drone killings should stop.

What's to stop another country from sending drones here? These killings are only creating more enemies in a spiral that never stops.

We as a nation of free people are doomed if we allow the rule of law to lapse. I cannot kidnap, torture, and kill extrajudicially, but the president or someone in the CIA can? A law selectively enforced is nothing but a tool for abuse in the hands of the powerful.

I am saddened and horrified by the children being killed by drones, and terrified by the prospect of people being killed without a trial or due process of any kind. Stop the drone deaths.

Democrat or Republican, all of us can agree that executive branch power grabbing can erode our democracy straight down the slippery slope toward autocracy. Secrecy and broadening of powers in the name of the war are time honored tools of the oppressive regimes of dictators the world over. WE MUST STAND UP FOR OUR DEMOCRACY.

Our President's policy of drone strikes against suspected possible terrorist associates is unconstitutional, offends every basic standard of honorable combat, and (since the President apparently has no compunction against killing American citizens without a trial) a horrendous overreach of government power.

The drone strikes have already killed far too many unarmed innocents, unfortunate passers-by, and men whose only crime was being between 18 and 70 in a zone some military officials thought was "suspicious". None of the slaughtered was charged with a crime or had a chance to defend himself, and we'll never know which were some kind of threat to the US and which were completely innocent. This insanity has to end.

the limit of imitation for tackling terrorism should fall far short of the effects you seek to disable else how are we to tell the damn difference?

If the drone killings don't stop in other countries, they could be used against anyone who doesn't agree with the regime's beliefs.

I'm a legal citizen, and a voter, and I want TRANSPARENCY, as promised!!! We the people have the right to know what the government officials we elected are doing, and to insist that things are done the right way. This is not a monarchy...but if it continues to be run this way, I will vote to replace all current pols at the next election.
