The United States has done an injustice to the people wrongly imprisoned at Guantanamo. They should receive public trials or be released with an apology and compensation for wrongful imprisonment. Anything less is an affront to our Constitution and our national values.

As long as the US insists on keeping Guantanamo open, it has lost all moral high ground in any negotiations with foreign countries where human rights or democratic freedoms are the issues at hand.

Congress should stop obstructing President Obama and close this embarrassing situation. It is ruining our reputation in the world. This congress under the house leadership of Speaker John Boehner and senate Republican minority leader Mitch McConnell is such a disappointment. Stop obstructing the president and do your jobs!

As a country supposedly dedicated to justice, the continued holding of prisoners at Guatanamo is totally hypocritical. Release them to local US prisons or allow them to live at liberty in the US.

It is positively un-American to imprison people who have not been convicted of a crime. We should all rise up and demand their release.

This situation is despicable. It's a national embarrassment, lessens our security and is morally repugnant.

I find it sadly and sickeningly ironic that a country that sustains (like beating a dead horse) this

Let the people in Gitmo that have been cleared for release, be released.

Guantanamo contradicts everything our democracy stands for. It is wrong. It undermines our integrity and credibility in the world--and rightly so.

standing up to the Republican bullies that are a cancer on America and Americans and the global community

Why do we still have prisoners at Guantanamo who were cleared for release long ago, yet they are still rotting in jail. The United States continues to babble about freedom and justice while the reality is that we have more prisoners per capita than any other country in the world and we are holding people in jail for years who have never been convicted of any crime. It is deranged and sickening that the United States continues to perpetuate the destruction of innocent lives by sacrificing human rights and human lives to the greed of a military - prison industrial complex.

I have joined Witness Against Torture outside the White House a number of times over the last 5 years, asking that Guantanamo be closed. 86 men have been cleared for release. Why are they still being held?

It's time for the House to provide the funds to close Guantanamo. I feel that's the reason it hasn't been closed. We've had enough of the Republican obstruction policy.

Either there are 86 people there cleared for release or else there are not. Either they were wrongfully detained or else they were not. And if they deserve to be freed, then they must be freed.

The US is disgraced by Guantanamo Bay and this prison has decreased the country's respect throughout the world. This country needs to "walk its talk." it is WRONG! And those innocent men are now very mad at this country.

Congress, let President Obama keep his campaign promise to close Guantanamo.

There is no moral defense for the continued existence of the Guantanamo prison. This agonizing dragging on of keeping exonerated persons locked up in Guantanamo is a severe human rights violation. We should all be ashamed of ourselves and should all do what we can to end this injustice. Forget politics, operate on following the humane, just path.

What happened to habeas corpus????? What happened to a speedy trial??????? indefinite detention without being charged is totally wrong with our principles of justice.

Granting that the arrogance of the current and earlier administrations ignores the ethical imperative to release these prisoners, it just plain spoils our global reputation.

These prisoners must be released now. No more excxuses. America must return to the respected, healthy, moral priciples that we once were known for. I am ashamed to be an American associated with any government that would allow illegal detentions. My government is going against my moral values and that fact is sickening.
