We Can't Take International Law Into Our Own Hands

Nothing would violate the quoted 'international norms' more than a unilateral US strike on Syria. To do so would forever discredit the whole concept of international law, and would counter-productively endorse the idea of other countries taking their own solo "enforcement" actions anytime they please as well. No such strike can be permitted or sanctioned.

We should not even keep the option of a unilateral military strike on Syria on the table.

Enough is enough! We got burned in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, let's use common sense and respect International Law on this one.

We can't take international law into our own hands. Military action in Syria is a waste of our resources.

America needs to quietly stand down. Please, this is a destructive and wasteful act. We have no business there and our presence will only add to the conflict. Please stand down.

why stop at Syria? We can enforce our version of "peace" and also "create jobs manufacturing arms in USA" at the same time, all over the planet! Those that survive our "peace"attacks will be "thanking" us for ridding children of parents, parents of children, leveling the land for new USA contractors who will build replacement houses, hospitals, etc

Damn! We are good at what we do!

International law is one thing, but our laws are clear as well. The President has zero authority to declare war on another country without the approval of Congress. This is just another example of his unconstitutional (read treason) actions over the last 5 years, and the VP's apparent support. They should all be tried who approve of this and other illegal actions.

Have you seen the video of the rebel commander eating the liver of the slain soldier on the ground in front of him? No matter what you think of FOX and Glenn Beck, the graphic film places into context the fact that our administration is marching to the strains of a wayward drummer. Let this civil war be decided by Syrians, or at least, by their Arab neighbors. We, in no way, belong in that fight.

Fix the US first and stay out of international politics!

It should not be the role of the US to take unilateral military action to enforce international standards.

Stop killing people.

Many Syrian survivors do need
help...but bombings make more dead
people...they do not help anyone to live.

It's too late to strike now. Innocents will be placed where the bombs will fall!! Action should have been taken immediately to prevent this. They are evil and be sure they will do the ugliest they can to incriminate us! Negotiate for their giving up all chemical weapons. That is now the only route to take!

Although past experience indicates that writing to you will be an exercise in futility, I persevere with the hope that someday, someone will have the compassion and altruism to do the right thing. Please be that Someone.

The whole Middle East is a mess. Until the Muslims decide to stop brutally killing each other there isn't much we can do. If the U.S. is going to interfere at all, how about going in to protect and rescue the hundreds or thousands of Christians who face death and destruction at the hands of the merciless Muslims. Now THERE is a cause worth dirtying our hands over!

Listen to Mr. Putin. He seems to understand the situation.

No, No, No. What you are thinking of doing is also
an atrocity.

The more we try to help - the faster the hatred of the United States grows. Aside from spending money we don't have nothing will be changed. We should not get involved.

At 81 I am appalled to think that after I'm gone the US as I knew it will become a country of violence, its administration and Congress becoming the sledgehammer of the world, needing to go to war at the least excuse, even if other countries have publicly voted for their own leaders. I am totally opposed to war, to 'protecting other countries citizens when our ow citizens are so in need of protection and service. Please do not do this.

America today is not what the founding fathers would have approved !.We were not meant to rule the World, and we are not the World's policeman. President Obama faces more than one man should, and he has my prayers.

So what happened to just being a neighbor? Sometimes we should give a hand, but not always. Decent people do the decent thing and that is: no interference in other countries. We give a hand if asked...and then treat everyone as equals. There is so much wrong, everywhere you look--dishonesty so prevalent it is unbelievable. So CORRUPT, I am shamed by their actions. What happened to decency, fairness and charity? The World is suffering from greed. Precious animals disappearing from greed. Babies starving to death from greed. Doesn't anybody CARE???

We have no business bombing ANYBODY! We can't trust what these people say as truth, anyway. It's not a war as we know them from the '60's and on.
It's a dictator who treats his own countrymen like flies, he tries constantly to stamp them out. Who's going to replace them?? The Communists? They don't have that right either!

NO MORE WARS!!! Quit putting the War Profiteers ahead of US Citizens. Our infrastructure, our schools, even food for low income citizens are already lacking to pay for the two wars already being waged.

I am strongly opposed to a military strike on Syria. This only brings more violence to the existing violence and will certainly not bring peace to this area, but most likely will escalate the violence. The US cannot act alone without international effort to negotiate this crisis. Sanctions against Assad should target him and not take more innocent lives.
