The full intent of a democracy is that each citizen's vote be represented, not 'groups' of citizens. I am so disappointed that the Supreme Court would rule such a disingenuous law that allow any corporation or group to vote as an individual. This just shows that the judiciary branches of government in the U.S. are also being compromised. Shame on these folks.!

Corporations are NOT PEOPLE and money is not speech. Learn your history if you think this country was democratic when founded. Only wealthy white property owners could vote. We have been correcting the Constitution since it was first written. A Constitutional Convention now is needed because the Supreme Court decisions have taken away the progress the citizens have made with Congressional laws. We have gone backwards with less democracy than more. Oligarchs know the "people" will eventually vote and are trying to take away the one man one vote. This must be stopped !

Money gives one human being many, many voices. That is not free speech. Excessive money gives the kind of people who like to throw it around with their weight (you know, your average Pile-of-Turds) excessive voice. This is not what the Constitution has in mind and only a Supreme Court Justice who is deep in the pockets of Big Money would consider it so, which makes each one unethical, immoral and, also, a Pile of Turds. Don't let piles of turds take over this country.

This is the most IMPORTANT BILL of all. SB1272 Not to pass it is to sign off on your own demise, not to mention the demise of this once great state.
ENDORSE SB 1272.

It is essential that no person or entity be allowed to "buy" any election anywhere in America. One person, One vote has long been our goal and we must not allow anyone to change what has worked so well. It would help if all types of voting district lines were drawn by impartial, well informed committees in every state, such as we have in California for electing members from our state to the US House of Representatives. So no more gerrymandering ! We all need to come together because this is our country and our government. We need more democracy not less.
Too people have paid the ultimate price so we can have the right to vote. We must note allow ourselves to be lulled into a false sense of confidence that we will always be able even if we fail to vote in every election or keep up with what is going on.

It is time for our representatives to represent us, the people, not the corporations who bought them. The more we know about these big business donors, the more we know what and who these representatives truly stand for.

Not one of the Founding Fathers would have ever construed the word "Person" to mean a legal construct created for the purpose of facilitating commerce, i.e. "Corporation", to be equated with a human citizen granted rights under the constitution. I have to believe that political forces influenced this decision so antithetical to the spirit of our great Constitution. Do everything in your power to right this terrifying wrong!

Please help the cause! Support legislation that will reduce the influence over money in politics and allow voters to actually have a say in their own government. Thank you.

The individual is not a corporation and vice-versa. Let's reverse this travesty and not succomb to make "money" the voice of 99.1 per cent of the people!

California should use it's right as a State to initiate the Constitutional Amendment process.

Dear Senator,

I respectfully request that this issue be taken seriously, as it has become increasingly apparent that the current system does nothing but give money to the rich and takes from the common folk. For what purpose? What is the point for the super rich to take more money from the people when they cannot possibly make use of it within their lifetimes, when it comes at the cost of the people they depend on? Yes, people accept it for now, but history shows that such practice, if drawn out for long, never ends well. I always thought America was one of the best countries in the world, if not THE best. But the more I grow up, and the more I become aware of what is happening, the more I worry for my fellow citizens, and future generations. We need to stop bending to corporate greed, and think about the nation as a whole, or else the United States may just be another nation in the history books that was ONCE great, but could not keep its s--t together. A strong structure can only be strong when it has a well-established base. If all the stability is only at the top of the structure, while having a flimsy base, it would surely collapse. Some Americans have gone through the rags-to-riches path under the current system, but if we invest our opportunities into the people more than we already do, who knows what we can accomplish?

Sincerely,
Giovanni

Citizens United turns our Democracy into a Plutocracy, with corrupt, reviled oligarchs. America will lose its status as a world power, and be changed for the worse. We the people will become serfs. This must be overturned and DEFEATED! The Supreme Court "5" should be impeached for High Crimes and Misdemeanors for their constant politically corporatist rulings, such as Citizens United and McCutcheon vs. FEC. Destructive rulings!

Money is not speech.
If psychopathic corporations are people, then they should be subject to capital punishment for murder.

If the Federal government and the Federal courts are going to demonstrate this kind of contempt for the will of the voters, it is our duty to address the issue. Citizens United and the McCutcheon decision are gross violations of the intentions of the framers. If a corporation is a citizen, why are they not then prosecuted in a manner that citizens are routinely subjected to for various malfeasance? If money is speech, then those with more money must inherently, have more speech. Is there a more naked attempt to negate the voice of living breathing citizens than allowing this? Is there any more unambiguous prostration of the high court to corporate necessity? This must change.

Money does not equal the power of a voice in a democracy. Corporations should not be able to give money to political candidates at all.
