Big Money (from associations, corporations, labor unions, etc.) applied to a governing process that has elections and law making results in a plutocracy. Abraham Lincoln got it right "of the people, by the people, for the people". Let's get this right.

The voters of California beg you to put this to a vote of the people in November. This very bad Supreme Court decision is reeking havoc on our democracy. Money should not decide who gets elected. We the People should be able to choose OUR representatives by the voting process WITHOUT the CORRUPTION of MONEY, which is NOT FREE SPEECH.

California has the opportunity to lead the way to declare that people are the ones who have rights, not companies.

Don't hold the voters of CA in suspense. Put SB1272, The Overturn Citizens United Act on the upcoming November ballot.

Every committee in the CA legislature that has taken this up so far has passed it by an overwhelming margin. Surely the CA Assembly Appropriations Committee will also hear the voices of the citizens of CA and do the same.

The huge sums of money needed to be elected have been detrimental to effective governance because many qualified individuals, who would otherwise run for office, are adverse to the fund raising now required, contributions influence politicians decisions, and politicians spend an inordinate amount of time seeking funding instead of time spent governing.

Allowing unlimited corporate donations to campaigns is destoying democracy. Most thinking people think "Citizens United" is Unconstitutional

Citizens united is the biggest blow to democracy in my lifetime. Please pass SB1272.

Two recent Supreme Court decisions have enabled a handful of very wealthy individuals to effectively inundate the national and state electoral processes with huge sums of money that represent the voting preferences of a select few and distort the intent of the electorate. Our country has thrived under a system of one person, one vote. The California legislature needs to vote on and pass SB1272 as the first step in overturning the Citizens United decision and enabling the voices of all citizens to be heard, not just the wealthy.

Promote democracy. Corporations are not people and money is not speech.

We've got to stop people like the Koch brothers, Shelly Adelson, and Mitt Romney from becoming defacto Emporers of this great country.

In a system where money equals speech, the poor are voiceless. This is not the type of system the Founders envisioned.

Money is not speech and corporations are not people. Let the people vote on it.

It's time to overturn Citizens United - the worst judicial decision ever - once and for all!

The Citizens United decision puts private individuals at a disadvantage versus corporations. One man, one vote is irrelevant when more money can effectively buy more votes and influence and essentially allow the 1% to castrate our democracy, turning it into a plutocratic oligarchy instead. They will be the New Age feudal lords and we will be their serfs, with no chance of escape from our imposed slavery.

This vote you make will be very important to a large , heretofore not active enough, constituency. We are being stirred out of complacency by the enormity of this issue. I beg you to give real democracy a chance and move this legislative opportunity forward. Help California lead to restore hope and trust in our government.

The root of democracy is the voice of the people, that is living breathing thinking human beings, and not corporations.
Support bill SB 1272

Representatives question why the public has lost so much confidence in our political system. At the core of this, is the public's suspicion that despite our supposed democratic government, corporations willing to contribute boatloads of money to finance political campaigns influence Congress, and the public's vote does not seem to matter one bit ... especially given all the gerry-mandering, Electoral College, etc. The system is rigged against the public and it is time for you to start showing us otherwise. Please begin to act accordingly.

California voters deserve the chance to make our views known.

Corporations are NOT people and their huge election contributions are NOT free speech! The Citizens United Act greatly weakens our free elections system and must be overturned! Support SB1272!
