If we are a nation of laws, then nobody is above the law.

What is going on in this country? I voted for a change and now am faced by a Congress too tepid to stand up for our constitution or due process of law. I can hardly believe that Vice President Cheney operated a private assasination team out of the White House and nothing is being done about it.
If the sweetheart no competition contracts obtained by his old friends at Haliburton were not enough, when is enough enough?
Have our Democratic party leaders lost their courage or their understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the separation of powers doctrine.
It truly felt like the Bush adminstration was an imperial monarchy. And the transgressions of our civil liberties that occured during his tenure in office, let alone the use of torture seem to be issues our elected officials are just going to sweep under the table.
What in the heck is going on here?
Please stand up for our Consitution and at least investigate Cheney's misconduct. Are we going to have to rely on a foreign country to find him guilty of war crimes and just do nothing here at home. How truly misguided and morally bankrupt our Congress must seem to the rest of the world.

No, Former Vice President Cheney Was NOT A Law Unto Himself

Remember when former Vice President used to claim that he constituted a peculiar fourth branch of government unto himself, claiming executive privilege as part of the executive branch, while with the next breath refusing to obey executive branch record keeping laws? Now we beginning to find out what that fourth branch of government actually was . . . his own private worldwide assassination ring. Somehow we don't recall the U.S. Constitution providing for such a fourth co-equal branch of our government.

Even those who argue that the president has the power as "commander in chief" to commit war crimes with impunity, do not argue that the Vice President should be able to operate his own war crimes franchise independent of the president. And yet, according to Seymour Hersh, a most reliable source, that is exactly what took place. Cheney was running his own personal assassination squad, reporting directly to himself.

Is there no level of treason outrageous enough to get one of the other two branches of government to confront these crimes against the Constitution? The justice department must immediately appoint a special prosecutor. Failing that, Congress must launch its own investigation, as called for by the always heroic Dennis Kucinich, to get to the bottom of this.

I believe Thomas Jefferson and John Adams would be rolling in their graves from the crimes committed against The Constitution by Cheney/Bush. No one and I mean NO ONE is above the law especially The Constitution. The Department of Justice needs to file charges against Cheney/Bush, otherwise what type of role model is government officials if they can get away with anything so why should we follow The Constitution.

Dick Cheney is not above the law. It's time that our elected officials join the rest of the country and live by the rule of law that we all must abide by!

Torture is evil.
People who torture are evil.
People who condone torture are evil.
People who remain silent are cowards.
Dick Cheney, Al Gonzales, President Bush, and Condi Rice need to be prosecuted for war crimes. We're supposed to be the Good Guys. If you don't want to be one of the Good Guys you can go to Hell, in this case, I mean quite literally.

You must call for the full investigation of the crimes of the last administration. Your continued silence is unconscionable.

I was aware that Cheney had severe mental health problems, but this is really nuts. We need to be informed of his other off- the-wall and insane ideas.

The American people deserve to know the truth. If laws were broken, there should be prosecution.

Too many secrets breeds more animosity, mistrust and deception. All pave the road for corruption...the same as we are seeing now, from what was kept from all. To know the truth is to learn from it...to disguise it is insanity.

Learn...

Dennis Kucinich is a hero to the American people. If all our leaders were like Dennis our country would be for the American people. Please listen to congressman Kucinich! He thinks of country first, unlike so many who think of their own greed, and every man for himself, all the while making it impossible for the average person to improve themselves, because we are supporting the greedy and selfish. WAKE UP! the American people have. The double standard won't work anymore. When anyone breaks the law, whoever they are, WILL BE PUNISHED, PERIOD! If you all won't act and punish criminals, we will get honest leaders who will. If you are afraid, put on your chicken suits so we will know who you are.

I understand, as our President keeps saying, that we need to "move forward", but my contention is this: If we DON'T investigate and then prosecute for what crimes we find were indeed committed by Bush/Cheney and/or any part of their administration, what, then, is there to keep any future neocons from trying the same agenda?? That's MY argument--if Cheney is not investigated in this situation, what's to keep someone else from trying the same thing?? The best advertisement for crime is crime unpunished...

If the current U.S. government does not investigate this, then
forget about this being a nation of laws and forget that we
have a Constitution.

I am asking everyone involved to investagate Cheney's assasination squad. This man has broke more laws, hurt the republican party more than anyone from any other administration. His crimes spread much wider than just Whitewater, Blackwater,War crimes in Iraq, promoting waterboarding, andit be proven. The republican party has collapsed within, you as our representitives need to listen to the call for an Investagation of Cheney. There must be boundries, and rules, and we can't make it up as we go.
If he is innocent, then so be it, but I think he is guilty, and millions of others feel the same way. There must be accountability.

Our own American integrity depends on how we correct the war crimes of the Bush administration, especially those of Mr. Cheney, who even now attempts to sabotage the current administration's efforts to restore our country. We must investigate and prosecute these crimes against America and the world.

How much more do we have to hear before something is done? With each passing week, we learn more and more about this authoritarian cabal that hijacked our country and committed unspeakable acts in our name, and each week we become more complicit in these crimes by letting them stand. We've signed treaties and are obligated by law to investigate the war crimes perpetrated by the past administration, and Spain has an investigation underway. Do we really want the rest of the world to do our work for us? If we're to ever be a moral leader again, we must face down the demons of the past 8 years and show the world that all are accountable before the law. If we fail to act, we all have this on our heads, and that's just not acceptable.

In addition to this issue, Cheney has apparently left a "mole" in the White House to report to him what the new administration is doing. Having been frustrated since 2007 over the House Judiciary Committee's failure to begin an impeachment investigation, I believe YOU MUST DO SOMETHING NOW ABOUT THIS CRIMINAL MASTERMIND WHO HAS BROUGHT OUR NATION TO ITS KNEES. Please!
