It's clear that the Republicans are indeed Cheney's "leave-behinds" as detailed by Sy Hersh. We cannot let them defend or cover-up the crimes of the Bush administration. If these Republicans are so insistent on protecting high crimes, perhaps they should be investigated as well.

As Respondent # 6640, let me be clear on this....someone somewhere in America, MUST find a local DA in their area willing to get Vincent Bugliosi to consult/help with charging Bush with MURDER. Come on people...he single-handedly, with a stroke of a pen, sent over 4000 young people to die.
No amount of Repugnican rhetoric acn justify that!!!

Tecumseh said that no nation would respect his people as civilized if they engaged in torture. For that reason, he said that torturers were not worthy of fighting along side him nor for him. I, too, believe that. So does the world. We are not respected because our leadership still does not get it. Prosecuting torturers is not a partisan issue, it is an issue of being civilized. It is a partisan issue to not prosecute. It only helps protect those who abandoned civilization to protect themselves from the consequences of violating the norms of civilzed behavior.

How can we hold ourselves up as the paragons of democracy with such a shameful track record of torture and denial of human dignity? If the perpetrators of these crimes are not held accountable for their actions, then we have lost the war on terrorism by becoming the terrorists.

As a judge's daughter, it has always been my opinion that those in the public spot light should adhere to the laws that make this country great. They should be made examples of when they break the laws or act as though they are ABOVE the law... Part of being an American means that the president is held to the same accountability as the citizens... Impeachment hearings for Clinton? HAHAHAHHA Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction, he took our country to war with a LIE, he killed our hard working and patriotic military members for a war based on oil and dollars. A DEPLORABLE act, treachery and deceit of the worst degree. Murder of our countrymen, all for some extra cushioning in the oil companies' pockets. This my friends is why I hope there IS a Hell, to hold people who DO get away with murder on this Earth accountable. I suffered personal loss due to this war, these lies, this non-patriotic and selfish act by a man who believes he is the tzar or grand Pooh-bah, able to make up his own rules... be above our lowly peon laws. HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE for the mess that has been created and the travesty he has done to this country.

We the people deserve to know the truth and to see that the guilty are punished. Anything less is a continuation of the corruption that characterized the bush administration. Don't let that be your legacy.

As an American, I have the right to know what is going on in my name. We should all be ashamed that the Bush administration chose to follow the path of Communist China, Nazi Germany, North Korea and others by using torture. All so-called Christians should follow suit demanding to know the truth. Who would Jesus torture?

It may be that Republicans will become even more negative if this information is released but, if it is not, it will only encourage later power-hungry administrations to ignore our Constitution and our laws. It would set a terrible example.

Our government CANNOT withhold information from the people under the guise of National Security, or because it is not considered a priority by some. Our government must be transparent or our country will continue to backslide into an ugly monster of a nation that neglects the pursuit of Peace and it's own people. We are not under so much danger that our freedoms must be sacrificed! There is a false dichotomy between secrecy and security, and transparency and risk...
We shall have a transparent, secure, and prosperous nation by openly communicating with our leaders, each other, and the rest of the world.

I never met my Father's Mother because she died in a concentratrion camp. Torture, humiliation, and death do not belong in the playbook of the American experience. Allowing these excesses to be excused will only allow more atrocities to be commited again unless those who have committed grave crimes are punished accordingly!

No doubt Bush/Chaney should be prosecuted, but so should every member of congress that allowed this to happen. This country is no longer of, by, and for the people--it is of, by, and for the Lobbyists. It would be nice to have our country back.

As I have said since 2005 both bush and cheney should be investigated and if there is enough evidence charge them. Charge them with Murder, they fit right in with what it called the, "the Felony Murder Rule". All it means is in the act of committing a felony, a person is killed, then the people who were committing the felony are responsible for the person who was killed, even if they had nothing to do with the way the person is killed, or just dies. There are so many other criminal acts I do not have the space to name them all. Plus I am not up to date on Federal laws, only the State of Arizona, where I am a retired police officer.

Please do everything in your power to make sure the Justice Department releases the documents relating to possible torture and war crimes by the Bush Administration. These memos, and any other evidence relating to possible treason, war crimes, human rights abuses, and/or unconstitutional acts must be investigated and, if necessary, prosecuted in the criminal courts. If we don't do this, we are not doing our constitutionally mandated duty as citizens of this country to make sure our elected officials uphold the law and the Constitution. In short, we would be as guilty as they are. I, for one, have no intention of putting myself in this position. I don't really think you have any intention of doing this either, so I think you are, and will continue to oppose attempts to block the release of the Justice Dept. memos. and any other evidence that may come to light. I simply am outraged at years of watching the law and Constitution mocked, flauted, publicly and privately. We can't let it continue. It can, and must stop NOW. Very sincerely,

The best reason to release the torture memos is that Republicans don't want them released. Why? Evidentally the memos are so damning that Republicans are afraid they will lose their seats. We need to know just how bad the Bush administration was so we don't go there again. ALL of this country--every person in it must believe in the rule of law . Use it or lose it. We need to be willing to demand it.

If the Republicans were smart they would stop being obstructionists and push for the law of the land to be restored and for the truth to be revealed.

Like they say "The Truth will Set You Free" .... who knows it might just help them to regain some seats, since the Democrats aren't forcing the issue with Holder and Obama.

I am tired of the Republicans holding this country hostage and their constant whining ! We do not need to go to some foreign land to find terrorists, when they are amongst our elected officials. The republican party provided cover for the crimes of the Bush administration. It is time to let the truth be known of what happened during the Bush years and time there was accountability to restore our moral standing in the world. Pretending these crimes against humanity didn't happen, is jeopardarizing the future of establishing trust with other nations. Heaven knows we have much to account for.
Release all the memos and hold the guilty parties accountable.

We must wake up to a very basic fact: that we don't, and probably never have, practiced what we preached. We have allowed our country to be hijacked by people selling a "brand" to the rest of the world while knowingly acting contrary to the PR campaign. Torture is not the first time we've gone back on our principles but it is probably the worst thing we've done while claiming we don't. Frankly, we are a culture that has celebrated torture, at least as far back as "Dirty Harry," when Clint Eastwood steps on the perp he just wounded to learn where the girl he kidnapped was being held. THAT'S TORTURE! Delaying medical treatment and accellerating pain to obtain information is torture. Are we a "Nation of laws" when I can look at just about every fictional show with a law enforcement theme and KNOW the "good guys" are violating the rights of people around them. Are they, you ask? Just ask yourself, if a competent attorney was present when they say or do the things they do to the client, wouldn't the outcome be different? You betcha, but these shows get the ratings because we WANT to see the bad guy "get his." What our fictionalized plots aren't showing are all the times our government employees, inspired by these shows going back to "Miami Vice," set up coercive environments to get confesssions from people who we find later did not commit the crime.
You want the torture memos released? I do, too, but I want US to admit what our government did is not an abherration but a REFLECTION of our culture and it's long past time it changed!
