Since we humans are interdependent it's the only intelligent way to relate and develop a more cooperative world. Thank-you for giving this your attention. ********** [181310:100109] C.B., Olympia, WA State Dept and Congress to establish full diplomatic relations with ALL countries now. ********** [144425:051509] R.K., Creve Coeur, IL Though it may be difficult to have full diplomatic relations with any and every foreign nation, we should try harder. ********** [230311:051309] D.E., Flushing, NY We, the United States, need FULL diplomatic relations with all countries of the world where our diplomats can have safe and secure embassies. ********** [232715:051209] R.B., Los Angeles, CA I support respect and the rule of law and that all countries should abide by it, ********** [195858:051209] S.H., Eugene, OR Talk to the hand cause the face don't want to hear it. What the hell is going on here? Savages can communicate after all. ********** [135707:051209] H.B., El Paso, TX Refusing others the same right to exist we claim for ourselves is irresponsible. Only Full Diplomatic Relationships will assist in necessary international understanding and needed compromise. ********** [120925:051209] R.D., Fairfield, CT I AM A WWII VET AND A MORAL CHRISTIAN. THIS IS NOT THE COUNTRY I WAS BORN INTO. IT HAS BECOME A GREEDY, IMMORAL, EVIL EMPIRE SPREADING DEATH AND HATE OVER THE WORLD. IT PITIFUL THAT I MUST WRITE A NOTE OF THIS KIND. WHY HAS IT BECOME OUR TURN TO BE THE EVIL EMPIRE OF THE EARTH. STOP THE WARS...STOP DUMPING DOLLARS TO BANKS AND THE MARKETS. HOW HAVE YOU ALL BECOME SO STUPID AND EVIL. DICK DE WITT ********** [234752:051009] m.h., Inkster, MI How can we resolve our differences with other nations without talking directly to them? How can another nation truly convey our message to yet another country? How is responding on TV and talking at one another truly communicating with another country? We need a new approach to diplomacy. It needs to be radically different from that of the recent Bush Administration which talked at other counries and told them what to do, but failed to listen. We need to inspire the world to respect us once again. The only way we will do that is to truly begin to communicate with them. Diplomacy properly applied can sometimes head off costly wars. It can lead to cheaper solutions that to rely upon military solutions and threats alone. This is the time for our Secretary of State to leave her mark. It is time for her to show the world that our nation is capable of listening, even if we do not like what they have to say. The embargo of Cuba has not worked. Cutting off diplomatic relations with them has not worked. Why not try talking to them. We may get some of the changes that we desire that way. ********** [154914:050809] B.H., Laramie, WY We should not be like foolish women and refuse to speak to neighbors with whom we disagree! (OK, nor like foolish men, either ...) ********** [103700:050709] J.P., Delray Beach, FL It is utterly churlish that we cannot have direct dialogue with countries that we don't "like" or who don't "like" us. By having to go to, say, Switzerland, to negotiate challenges between mutually disliked countries it is like asking your friend to demean another, as if we were still in junior high school! Make discussion with US accessible to all nations. It's how problems get solved without war! Thanks. ********** [180421:050409] J.I., Coatesville, PA The principle of talking to all and never withdrawing diplomatic discourse unless it is denied by the host nation would remove the presumed power of access to petty governments. We must have better tools of pressure or persuasion than to shut up and go home. Constant diplomatic presence would ensure the vital contact which has been so evidently missing in the current case of Roxana Siberi. ********** [180021:050409] E.B., Seattle, WA We Must Establish Full Diplomatic Relations With All Countries Of The World Now. The Cold War is over! As a candidate Obama ran on a platform of talking to our enemies. This principle needs to be extended to the State Department in all respects. War is the failure of diplomacy! ********** [124123:050409] R.G., New Hope, PA For our country to be a world leader, we must engage with the world, not ignore it. ********** [090327:050409] R.K., Georgetown, KY We need to use more carrots and discussions and alot less sticks! ********** [172846:050309] B.P., Seattle, WA I believe that all aspects of the U.S. Government should be dealing with all peoples diplomatically, especially other countries and cultures that differ from our own. Since the State Dept has diplomats in most countries it should definitely be talking through the issues that come up in those countries. I think this is a better way than allowing hostile relationships to develop that could lead to more hostility and war. Peace is more advantageous, and we all should try to work out our differences by trying to understand one another. Unity is always better than division!!! Thank You Kindly!!!!! ********** [095512:050209] V.F., Bellingham, WA Yes, we need diplomatic relations with all countries, at a minimum to be protecting our own citizens there, and to be a voice for human rights everywhere. ********** [060231:050209] M.S., Clifton Park, NY Not talking to countries has not made them go away or solved any problems. Having diplomatic relations with countries does not mean caving in to bad leaders or endorsing bad policies. It does, however, leave the door open to non-violent solutions, which should always be our first goal. ********** [161013:050109] l.k., Warrenton, MO Please hold the Bush Administration accountable for all of the obsene twisting of the laws to their purposes and their hiding behind Christianity to rape the environments in other countries, and their lying to the American people about their torture practices. I put up with looking at Bush for 8 years on TV and believe he was a patsy and Cheney was behind him running the country. He needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Also he owned over 51% Halliburton, so he had direct interest in making a windfall profit from the Iraq invasion, and the death of thousands of our young men. Bush didnt send his little spoiled rotten girls to Iraq, they sat in the back of a limo sticking their tougues out to the media and attending sports functions while at Ivy league colleges, while our good people died, then Bush covered up the media coverage of the bodies returning home so as not to shake up the American people, and sneak the dead home under his feet. I'm sick of the whole thing. Condoleesa Rice is a very intelligent kissass too. ********** [111905:043009] M.E., New York, NY There must be accountability when people at the highest levels of our Government order actions that are reprehensible and fly in the face of everything for which this country stands. If we want to move forward, we will have to look back so that their may be accountability. Remember...as outrageous as it was that our Government ordered torture in our name, some of those tortured were undoubtedly innocent. ********** [095107:043009] C.G., Eagle River, WI As a veteran of the Korean War, I look at the wars we have been involved in since that time and regret that so many lives have been lost in Vietnam, Bosnia, Gulf War I, Iraq, and Afghanistan. There is no guarantee that we could have avoided the loss of life through diplomatic recognition and negotiation but I feel that our losses could have been far less. War should be a LAST resort, not a first response. Establish diplomatic relations with all nations. ********** [171740:042909] L.B., Cape Coral, FL The pointless "withholding" diplomatic relations is essentially a policy of arrogance that is used as an excuse to not engage in critical dialog that is necessary if international problems are to be understood, addressed and, eventually, resolved. It is a counterproductive game of "I won't play with you" until you met my (often hypocritical) demands and disregard your own. It is time for the US to move beyond that archaic modus operandi and demonstrate real leadership among nations, as so many want, expect and the world needs to experience. ********** [171438:042909] d.k., Portland, OR We need to treat all nations the same, with respect and dialogue. ********** [143643:042909] G.F., Red Wing, MN Re: Establish Full Diplomatic Relations With All Countries of the World Now. The purpose of diplomatic relations is allow nation states to communicate about matters that are of mutual interest. Diplomatic relations should not be and are NOT the giving of a seal of approval of one nation upon another. Let U.S. grow up. Absent naked aggression, economic or military, there is no way to directly influence others' behavior except by communication. The diplomatic mission is there for the purpose of communication. It is time for America to mature. America establish diplomatic relations with all regimes and use diplomatic relations for the proper purposes of communication and not for approval of other regimes or for domestic political points or for other inane purposes. ********** [074412:042909] D.T., Brunswick, ME To whom it may concern, I am concerned for the well being of all the people not only of our nation, but of the world. It is time to open the doors of communication with as many other countries as posible. If we begin a respectful dialog to find common ground and mutual understanding of one anothers points of view, then I believe that it is possible for all parties involved to become more receptive to new ideas and open communication. For many these may seem like dreams, but I know that pepole and countries are made of the same components and communication is the seed that grows any relationship. Sincerely, Deadra Taczli ********** Go Back |
