There are few issues that people have stronger opinions about than the question of what should be done about immigration.
For contained with it are the other issues of homeland security, wage level depression for American citizens, and criminal law enforcement, each inflamatory enough in their own right.
Those who oppose S. 1348, titled the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007" [text of bill] argue that its basic provisions are beyond redemption, and that it would not be acceptable without radical change. Interestingly, this appears to be the case from BOTH the so-called right and left sides of the aisle.
So we simply pose the question here, should be bill be passed, or should Congress scrap it and essentially start from scratch. We have attempted to collect a fair and representative sample of what some of the more prominent voices are saying about this in the arguments section at the bottom of the action page.
