Remove FEMA from Homeland Security
Here's the personal truth of Katrina: My family and I escaped the worst of Katrina with our clothes and little else. Our home on Lake Ponchartrain is gone...simply gone. We were Katrina refugees like the hundred of thousands of others you saw on television. No difference. My wife, my young children...homeless; I have never felt so helpless.

After starting my Congressional race in August 2005 (before Katrina), I just returned to my home district, from the Chicago area, on March 17th, 2006 because I couldn't find any housing until then. After all these months there is still no housing. FEMA, as part of Homeland Security, has had it's hands tied and has been the victim of no-bid contracts to political cronies. And people have died because of it. There are tent cities throughout my District.

We must win this effort to let FEMA do its job without interference. These people cannot be allowed to continue as if nothing has happened! We must change the structure, rebuild Louisiana and ensure that nothing like this can ever happen to any American community ever again!

Join us in this effort that helps all Americans and sign the petition showing support for the Hillary Clinton legislation, SB-1615. [Text of Bill]
