The best electorate is an informed electorate. We deserve the chance to compare the candidates side-by-side. Please give Mr. Tasini and Sen. Clinton a chance to meet and compare their positions.

Dear Mr. Hardt,

I urge you to hold a debate between Mr. Tasini and Senator Clinton to educate voters to their choice for the next New York Senator. To hold this debate is to practice democracy in action. Not to hold it is to be partisan, equal to an endorsement of Senator Clinton. To set a financial and popular threshold before holding such a debate is to insure that only the rich and famous may run for office and have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the general public. Do the right thing in the name of democracy and free speech and hold this debate.

Sincerely,
Rosemarie Pace

Voters need choices and candidates need competition. It's a win-win situation!

Elections are the lifeblood of democracy. Debates are the best way for the electorate to compare the candidates. Let us see Tasini and Clinton debate.

Not providing a forum for open debate by all serious candidates is equivalent to stifling the democratic process, and not appropriate in a country which holds itself out as a democracy.

I would like to see Democracy in action. Allow Tasini to debate with Clinton in the NY 1 Debate. Every candidate should be given full opportunity to express his or her views.

This man and his supporters deserve to be heard, regardless of what is in their coffers. How undemocratic of you, NY1.

All candidates should be allowed to debate, in order that the public at large knows where the candidates stand on important issues. It is the only fair way. It does not matter what party he/she belongs to, as long as they are candidates and have received the necessary signatures to be placed on the ballot, they should also be allowed to be in on the debates.

I would like to hear Jonathon Tasini in any debates between candidates.. I understand that recent polls show him well beyond the 5% threshold

I have been a fan of NY1 since its inception. The reason for that is because I always have felt NY1 provided accurate and fair presentation of news. I am disappointed to find that NY1, at this point in time, is not planning to air a debate between Jonathan Tasini and Hillary Clinton. I respectfully request that you reconsider this decision and schedule such a debate.

this country is suppose to b- where all men are created equal. yet this country is controlled by a small group of powerful indivuals. the fact that they control the media and only allow what they want out there is obvious. we need open media and open elections.

I am dismayed that you do not plan to hold a debate of the Democratic Primary campaign for US Senator. There are at least two candidates who will be on the ballot in September. Shouldn't we have the right to hear what they have to say? Just because Senator Clinton is now an incumbent and well known and her opponent is not is no excuse to bar him from presenting his program for us to decide who would be the best candidate.
It is necessary to give Jonathan Tasini the opportunity to present his qualifications and program for us to make the decision about who would represent us, not you or the networks. That is your obligation. I look to you to fulfill that obligation.

It is unfair of NY 1 not to have a debate between the two NY Primary Senatorial contestants, both of whom are on the ballot. This amounts to simply appointing Hillary Clinton to the U.S.Senate giving the public no opportunity to meet Tasini. Foul!!!!

true Americans are fed up with the criminal manipulation of the media for the equally criminal republican regime and its agenda

Why should a candidate's eligibility for participation in public debate be governed by the amount of money his or her campaign has raised so far? Why should he be excluded because he has not yet raised $500,000? This is undemocratic. It is crucial that Tasini's voice be heard in order for voters to make an intelligent and informed choice. I, for one, want have a choice and want to know what Tasini has to say.

Please allow Jonathan Tasini to debate Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination on NY1.

The voters of NYS deserve to observe a debate between both contenders for the Senate seat, and not just the incombent, who always has the upper hand in elections. Please allow Tasini to debate Clinton and allow your viewers to watch it!

I am very interested in learning what Jonathan Tasini has to say about the issues in the New York senatorial race. He has a fine reputation as former executive director of the Writers Union and for standing up for the rights of writers and others. I admire his determination to present a point of view different from Sen. Clinton's about the Iraq war and other issues. A debate between Tasini and Clinton will be most informative and I think it very important that you make it possible for Tasini to be heard. Beatrice Siegel

I urge you to hold a debate between the two Democratic Senate candidates in New York. The public has a right to hear Mr. Tasini's views and the media has a responsibility to be fair to all candidates.

As an organization mandated to give fair coverage to all kinds of news, you are instead showing bias in your coverage of only Republican debates for senator, and not Democratic. Every eligible candidate deserves to be heard and Jonathan Tasini has fulfilled those requirements.

I am a Time-Warner subscriber and regular NY1 viewer. I strongly urge NY1 to invite the two Democratic party candidates for US Senate to debate. The amount of money raised should not be a requirement for inclusion in a debate, especially when a candidate is polling above 10 percent. The Democratic voters deserve the opportunity to hear both candidates, especially when the challenger represents a clear contrast with the incumbent on several important issues. In fact, the challenger's position on the Iraq war is that of a large majority of Democratic party voters.
I urge you to reconsider your decision and to invite Jonathan Tasini to debate Sen. Clinton.

I wish the media would return to reporting the news and stop trying to manipulate it. I would be very interested to hear the Democratic candidates debate. I am especially interested to hear Mr. Tasini's position on the Iraq war debacle.

If 40,000 New Yorkers were willing to sign a petition to get Tasini on the ballot -- 25,000 signatures more than needed -- then people in this state are obviously interested in him. You certainly know, Mr. Hardt, that you are doing your part to hand the nomination to Clinton by NOT allowing a debate between her and a candidate who is already on the ballot. What is your real motivation in setting an arbitrary threshold for Tasini's participation in this debate?

The voters of New York deserve the opportunity to know the candidates running for US Senate. Please be sure that the debates between candidates Jonathan Tasini and Hillary Clinton take place.

Clearly with thirteen percent polling, there is public interest in Tasini's candidate. I am inclined to support Hillary Clinton, because of her record in environmental health, but I'd like to see Tasini and Clinton face to face.

Is NY 1 a responsible NY news station, or something else?
