The American Ecology is nobody's chesspiece; oppose these awful bills.

The secretive nature of our current administration would lend one to use caution toward allowing the formation of unaccountable commissions whose actions would be done in secret to avoid public critisizm. When it comes to anything that does not support the military or corporations then it is deemed unessential. How wrong headed can that be? Federal government steps beyond its established form and does damage to society without the consent of the governed and their choices of freedom and security.

I'm in favour of government in the sunshine, and these sunset commissions are the opposite of that. They work in the dark.

Mr. Bush has talked often of bringing democracy to the world. Perhaps now is the time for you to return democracy to the people of the United States of America. Democracy can not exist in secret. Democracy can not exist without accountability.
The legislation, H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766 creates un-elected and unaccountable commissions with the authority to eliminate federal programs and agencies behind closed doors with no opportunity for public input. I don't know what school you went to, but that has no resemblance to any form of democracy I ever heard about. In fact it very much resembles the activities of the 3rd reich and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Two bills are moving rapidly through the U.S. House of Representatives that would undermine or eliminate critical public health and environmental protection programs. The legislation creates un-elected and unaccountable commissions with the authority to eliminate federal programs and agencies behind closed doors with no opportunity for public input. The commissions are being called sunset commissions because they sunset programs. Unless you act now, critical public health programs including EPA's Clean Air programs that offer protection for all Americans to breath cleaner air, the Preventative Health and Health Services Programs run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and many others are at risk for elimination. These programs could be eliminated without any public input or a specific vote by Congress.
IF YOU REALLY REPRESENT "WE THE PEOPLE" YOU WILL HEAR US..."WE THE PEOPLE'" MAYBE FOR THE FIRST TIME.
PASSIONATELY, Janet Fraser Smith

Please do not vote in favor of H.R.3282 or H.R.5766. The Environment is a crucial issue central to all Americans and beyond and should remain in the decision making arena of our elected officials and not delegated to others not accountable to this great nation's citizens.

Public input is IMPORTANT! That's what makes this democracy great!

I strongly oppose these bills and think you should as well, for the sake of the principles of democracy and good governance as well our nation's need for strong environmental and public health protection.

Government of the people, by the people and for the people should happen within the view and within the comment of the people, not behind closed doors by appointed committee --

Especially when the health of our ecology and our citizens is at stake. The alarming erosion of environmental and health protections under the current administration's tenure needs to be stemmed and strongly reversed.

Oppose sunset commissions H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766 -- and all of their ilk.

I'm alarmed that H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766 are moving through Congress with no public hearings.

This legislation would create un-elected and unaccountable commissions with the authority to eliminate federal programs and agencies behind closed doors with no opportunity for public input. Critical public health programs including EPA's Clean Air programs that offer protection for all Americans to breath cleaner air, the Preventative Health and Health Services Programs run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and many others are at risk for elimination.

These programs could be eliminated without any public input or a specific vote by Congress.

I strongly urge you to keep this legislation on your radar and to oppose it. Thank you.

U.S. House of Representatives oppose sunset commisions, H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766 these two bills would eliminate critical public health and environmental protection programs. The legislation creates unelected commissions with the authority to eliminate federal programs and agencies behind closed doors with out public imput. The legislation, H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766, is moving through congress with no public hearings, limited debate among Congress and little opportunity for lawmakers to make ammendments. Members of Congress are expected to vote on one or both of these bills this week.

I oppose sunset commissions, H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766. These public programs need to be ready to help all those in need. We still live in a government FOR the PEOPLE.

Public programs help all of us. It is undemocratic and probably unconstitutional to eliminate these programs without any opublic debate. Those in favor of sunset commissions are a discrace to our country and what it stands for.

Over 200 years ago, our forefathers wrote a wonderful, albeit somewhat imperfect, document called the Constitution. Ever heard of it? Try reading it, as well as the Federalist Papers; Madison's submission, Number 49 is agreat one to read.

Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Mott

The sunset commissions created by both of these bills pose a direct threat to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other programs serving our nation's seniors, as well. Under both bills, a majority of the commission members would be appointed by the President or the leaders of his party in Congress, many of whom have already made clear their support for privatizing Social Security.

The legislation creates un-elected and unaccountable commissions with the authority to eliminate federal programs and agencies behind closed doors with no opportunity for public input. Let your Representative know you don't want an unelected body making important decisions about key programs that protect public health and the environment. That's the job we elected Congress to do.

What is happening to our nation? Will some unknown system stylists take over the important decisions about key programs that protect public health and the environment in secret 'sunset' committees? How is it possible that appointed persons would take over the responsibility of our elected officials? It sounds like a huge step closer to a Dictatorship, which I recall Mr Bush prefers.

Please vote against H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766.

The trees are the lungs of the earth. Money means nothing if the entire earth is poisoned. Please think ahead for future generations. Do NOT sunset H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766.

These protections for the health of our environment internal, mental and external need obviously to be strengthened rather then abandoned. (note the current spill and corroded pipe in Alaska and the uptick in crime in our cities). To do otherwise is indeed immoral. I remember being in this position before when Bush Sr. was voted out; and the reason I and my friends and family voted against Bush Sr. had nothing to do with the "NO NEW TAXES LINE" and everything to do with the IMMORAL FINANCIAL ABANDONMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES gutting of resource, leading to the AIDS epidemic threatening our health system, and a sickening of our planet DENYING GLOBAL WARMING , refusing to sign the Kyoto accords all with a persistent refusal of acknowledging their wrong doing. Please learn from the mistakes of the past and do everything possible to do better this time since you know better now!!!

HR 5766 and HR 3282!!! I'm also informing my friends of these two bills. Thank you.

The "Sunset commisions, H.R. 3282 and H.R. 5766" are aimed at removing or crippling environmental protections in the United States. Those who sponser these two bills are cronies of Bush and his buddies who paid to get him into office so they could drill for oil and exploit other parts of our bio-environment for their own profit.
I ask you folks in Congress to help to "rip-up" the "Sunset Bills" and discard them forever.
